Tour of the Netherlands!

Saturday morning: I baked 'krentenbrood' (sweet bread with currants), Eisirt went to get his hair cut, and then we packed our bags and off we went. Destination 1: Camilla's place in Soest. We had a yarn party with lots of crochet'ing and knitting women, all cosily sitting at the kitchen table (I love kitchen tables!)
Eisirt took care to provide Instagram hero @PoeHeeftPech with cuddles.

It was soon time for us to continue our journey to the North-west, and arrived right on time at Eisirt's parents'. Mother-in-law was a flurry of activity and conversation -- making a fuss of New Years wishes as we hadn't seen each other since 2016. (New Years' sounds like eons ago to me)
We had "gourmetten" -- cooking in tiny pans with tiny cuts of meat, and eating far too much all over.
I finished the hat I started that afternoon while hanging out near the fireplace, and soon we were tucked into bed.

Sunday morning was a big breakfast -- or so it felt. I haven't had toast in forever -- and then we went out for a walk. It was cold but sunny and I snapped some pictures with my phone that turned out to be more than alright. I edited them slightly before putting them up on Flickr, click the link to see the set!

Winterse Wandeling-10
I don't think it gets more Dutch than this -- flat as a board, lots of grass and water and sometimes a farm.
Something weird in this picture: behind the tree line loom the dunes of Schoorl, the edge of our land.
I'm not quite used to them yet as you only get dunes like this near the sea.

After our walk and some more coffee we hopped in the car and drove to Amsterdam, to visit one of Eisirt's oldest friends. We had a lovely long talk and as Almar is very interested in people we had a wonderful conversation. It was really great to see him again, as he hadn't been able to come to Eisirt's birthday party in December.

Finally, we decided to detour into the centre of town, dropped the car in a parking and walked to Coco's Outback - "warm beer and lousy food" - at the Rembrandtplein. Eisirt's been telling me of this sports pub for three years and I finally got the chance to sample their Not so Huge Kangaroo burger (300 grams of meat) and potato wedges. We were served by a lovely smiling Aussie male, finishing the weekend off perfectly.

So now I'm pretty much d-e-d from all the driving and excitement, but we had a great time!
