Shirt details: breast pocket
May. 14th, 2016 01:40 pmOne of the demands of this assignment is a breast pocket on the shirt.
It was quite a feat to get it stitched on the right way, making sure all the stripes match. I'm still not very pleased with the bottom two horizontal stitching lines, but this being a stretch-cotton it cannot be helped.
I must have stitched the facing six times at least. The first time it wasn't a straight line. The second time I stitched it from the wrong side and my tension was off. The third, fourth and fifth times I stitched it from the right side and it warped the fabric (and thus the stripes) because the fabric moved before my presser foot coot pin it down.
I finally stitched the line again from the wrong side and the stripes are not as warped as before. I'm glad I had the time to unpick and re-stitch this so often.

I'm going cross-eyed from working with this fabric!
I pushed myself to finishing the shoulders yesterday, so back, shoulder panel and front are all attached. Sewing the breast pocket was a precision job, but I am pleased with the results. I've also done the right underlap of the shirt opening, which is in a contrast fabric. More on that later.
Next up:
Setting the sleeves, sewing the side seam and under-folding/top-stitching both of these so no seam allowances are visible. But that will be the next precision job for another day. I also need larger buttons, since my 2 cm overlap is just a tad too wide for my small 1 cm buttons.
