I'm progressing very nicely at working away all my WIPs. Yesterday I finished a project that I've been working on for a few years.
Or rather: it's been lying around, waiting for me to pick it up again. Catsitting proved to be the answer: I filled a whole day hand-sewing the quilt blocks together and soon enough I had pushed on through, was working on the sashing.
We have to make a wadded coat for school, so what could be better than to perfect my wadding-skills than to quilt the quilt?

And suddenly, it was done:

Basic Patchwork_front

Basic Patchwork_back

It measures 165 x 125 centimeters, which if you translate to a language everyone understands wraps under my feet and covers my lap when I'm sitting on the couch. It folds up nice and small, which means we can clear away the extra bedding we used to use to snuggle under when we're watching a movie.
Doortje has a talent for sniffing out things that are made of warms... she flopped down on it as soon as I put it down for doubling (layering the back fabric, quilt batting and patchwork top on top of one another before you can stitch through all the layers), so this is bound to become a favourite of hers.

This project was started in 2012, when I was looking to meet new people in Tilburg. Now that it's finally done, I can wash it and see if the coffee stain I made on one of the blocks will come out after three to four years.
The backing fabric is a very soft cotton I picked up at de Greef, a local fabric shop. I pre-washed it, and it came out super-soft and snuggly.

Next tot the five blocks we learned in the workshop, I added several new ones for a total of 35 blocks. All the blocks are pieced by hand!!!
Ninepatch, Windmill, Millstone, Log Cabin, Churndash and a ninepatch star were the original five blocks. I added a Jack in the Box, Double Star, Dutch Puzzle, and Card trick blocks. Most of the fabrics are the same ones I used in my mother's quilt, as well as the border fabric.
As soon as all the blocks were assembled, I sewed the sashing and borders on by machine. (Never again!)

Very happy this is done!
