Lidl has a rotating advertisement schedule, which I estimate spans about one calander year. Each year there are XXL-weeks, with Extra Large packages of staple goods like toilet paper and rice. Then there are the country-themed weeks, focusing on Greece, Turkey, Belgium, France, Spain, the USA and the UK, featuring the best and the brightest foods from those countries. If you want to buy some specific tool, you only have to wait for the gardening or home improvement week to come by to get your hands on the most economically priced supermarket-quality hardware.
Although it is ludicrous that a supermarket deals in power tools, I happily get my hands on discounted office supplies when they come around. And the past weeks it was craft-related: first sewing, now knitting.

The sewing thread breaks too easily and my Pfaff machines are probably the biggest snobs around, but when I got my hands on the knitting yarn yesterday I squeed. Several shades of powder blue, which is apparantly the big fashion trend for this winter.
But I had squee-ed too soon. As soon as I posted on Ravelry about the yarn being available in stores, I was pointed to some reviews about last year's yarn. Even though it was superwash and supposedly washing-machine safe, people had reported the yarn felting quite easily, even when washing on low temperatures. Although reviews varied (not everyone had a problem with the yarn!), I went back to exchange it anyway. Now that I am working again, my knitting goes more slowly, and if I spend two to three weeks on a pair of socks, I would like them to last a bit longer than two or three rounds in the wash.

At Eisirt's insistence, I took the money that was refunded to Bij Tante Betsy (the local yarn store) and splurged on two balls of Meilenweit sock yarn. When he insists, I should listen and not argue, especially when he encourages my yarn addiction.
I bought the Spicy and Joy colours -- nothing for my own colour scheme, but autumny colours to be spent on a gift. I'll have until the end of November to finish these, as Eisirt's mother celebrates her birthday early in December.

My parents-in-law are very appreciative of my knitting endeavours. My Zeeuwse lappendeken was a gift to my father-in-law, who is mad of all things thay have to do with boats, ships, or the sea, and I got three big kisses! I look forward to gifting my mother-in-law a beautiful pair of socks.
