Last-minute larp stress
Feb. 21st, 2015 10:48 amPMS combined with last-minute larp stress is not fun, I can tell you. Tonight we'll be visiting Köln for a tavern night with our Elysien friends from Drachenfest. After Eisirt got home yesterday from his very-early-morning shift, we dragged some storage boxes with costume and dreadlock extensions upstairs.
But my larp-pants were nowhere to be found.
I have one pair, ONE!, of narrow-legged black trousers (as seen in this picture) with brown embroidery down the side of the leg and pockets, that is super-stretchy and will always fit me. Because they are so super-stretchy, at the end of a week of Drachenfest the belt loops that hold the belt in place are a necessity in stead of a luxury.
Immediately, stress stress stress galore! No pants! No pants! I can't be a jogging-pants larper, I'm far too old to be one.
I made a mess of my stash, dug out a brown linen, found three patterns of pants that might fit me but won't, settled on a trouser pattern I had recently made for Eisirt, switched to a green cotton we picked up for a pair of pants for him, and started cutting. I even added an additional 2 cm down the outside leg seam.
After dinner I finally had a working pair of trousers. Horrible, straight-legged, wide-legged moo-moo trousers.
I cracked and broke down crying, and we snuggled up in bed with Jingles' "Why you Heff to be mad" playlist of derpy dorky World of Tanks videos.
This morning I packed my jogging pants anyway.
Some day, SOME DAY! I will have a working trousers pattern, made in several colours of stretchy cotton, with and without embroidery for various larp uses. And I will store them in a clearly-labeled box and avoid anything like this ever again! Grrr.
(Just as soon as I finally get my measurements taken at school so I can draft myself a pattern).
And then I will also make myself a few pairs of good trousers I can wear every day, because I haven't actually got any nice ones that will fit well. (One newly-bought that I still need to lengthen, after taking 14 cm out of the waist. One old one that is too baggy for job interviews but I wear around the house. One that looks nice but keeps falling off my ass because they're not well-fitting. And one that needs a new zipper for the second time.)
