Bathroom: Plans are made
Jan. 8th, 2014 10:12 pmThe plan for the bathroom took shape and we're kicking it off this weekend. The pipes will be moved into the walls after the water meter (and washing machine connection) and I'll be renting a certain tool to cut into the walls. This'll make a ton of noise, oodles of dust and a great finishing once everything is tested and leveled again.
Then we're using a chemical to burn the glazing off the old tiles, so new tiles can go over them.
This is looking at two to three Sunday's worth of work, but Nachtvisser seems very confident it will look completely awesome after that. He also asked a lot of difficult questions about which tiles I wanted and which colours. (Gee.)
I'm still having a bit of difficulty determining the wallpaper for my living room. Once the pipes have been moved into the wall, wallpapering everything really does come close and I need to have made a decision by then!
Tomorrow the guys from Ikea are dropping by between 11 and 12 to measure whether my kitchen design will fit the space. I can ask them if the pipes need to be moved into the wall there as well (so we can do everything in one go), whether the ventilation shaft needs to stay in place (it's rather dirty and unsightly) and if they know a carpenter willing to remove an asbestos plate from the balcony.
The plan for coming Sunday is not so much to remove all the old tiles in the bathroom. Nachtvisser and I will be starting out on Saturday evening, disconnecting pipes, washbasin and shower. Sunday morning we'll start cutting, and then burning the tiles and preparing the walls for tiling.
Stuff I plan to do next to helping Nachtvisser where I can include removing the old kitchen tiles (playing with chisels is my favorite way to inflict pain on myself!), removing the old kitchen since the water is disconnected anyway, and doing whatever my father doesn't finish tomorrow.
Once the pipes have been moved into the walls, there's time for some up-building and uplifting work: cleaning, putty-ing, painting, wallpapering, priming and such lovely things.
