NoKey's surgery
Jun. 20th, 2012 06:30 pm
Today NoKey underwent surgery for his shoulder. The problem didn't seem to heal on its own, and he found a clinic in Waalre that could fix it for him. The surgery was scheduled pretty quickly and today was the big day.
Then the big wait started for me. I had brought some hand sewing and all the while glanced up at everyone in the hall passing by. I met the clinic owner, who came back to tell me they were nearly finished. He emphasised that he normally didn't check for patients.
I pretty much got the idea it's not customary for family members to sit around waiting for the surgery to be done and as clinics go, this its a pretty small one at that.Still, don't expect me to sit at home waiting for news...As the six o'clock news rolled by on the television in the waiting area, I was brought to see him. He was still very groggy, and part of his torso was coloured pink from the iodine. There is a tiny bandage on his shoulder, maybe 5 or 6 centimetres, so I'd say they did a pretty neat job for a tendon redirection. The poor boy is now sleeping it off, while the heart rate monitor blinks orange as his heart rate drops below fifty and the nurses have their dinner in the background. I still have a sandwich and half a litre of lemonade in my bag, and I'm not leaving until he opens his present: the latest Terry Pratchett. (He was too sleepy to even tear the wrapping paper off.)So all, in the end, is well. And they'll kick him out tomorrow morning so I will get him back home then.
