Hope to Haiti Challenge
Jun. 7th, 2011 12:45 pmOn March 29th, I posted about Cathy Hay's intention to raise $ 14,000 for charity so she and her partner Demi could go to Haiti and build a community center there.
For the last two months, Cathy has been posting an update nearly every day on their progress. They baked hundreds of cupcakes and sold them for charity. She approached local newspapers for publicity. And she approached Kedleston hall, where the dress she intends to re-make (and tell only those people who donate, how exactly she goes about it!) is displayed, for a chance to study it and the techniques used.
With only a week to go to the finish line, today Cathy's posted in her blog that the $ 14,000 mark has passed. She and Demi are definitely, definitely going!
If anything, this is an amazing example of perseverance ("There is no spoon" and "anything is possible") and the power of a community, but Cathy isn't done yet. She's hoping to raise an even GBP 10,000 ($ 16,426) for Random Acts, the charity behind the Hope to Haiti challenge by June 17th.
You can still donate and be a part of the adventure along with 278 other donators (yesterday's tally). Here's the link to get involved!
