Project Chestnut: March
Mar. 13th, 2010 08:46 am
The largest chestnut in the smallest container had a problem with its leaves, which is why I chose to repot it. It now has the largest container. NoKey said the pot could no longer contain enough water to suit the growing tree's needs.
I think it might also be a nutrition problem, but we'll see if the status changes.
All four chestnuts have now sprouted, which gives us a 100% germination rate.
In other gardening news: with the sunny weather of late my Streptocarpus is bringing forth flowers again, hurrah, and I've sown tomatoes, parsley, basil, chives, and an orange paprika.
I'm using an egg carton for now, since its bio-degradable, but it has a problem containing moisture. So I placed it into a small plastic container with water so the soil doesn't dry out.
I also need more of these fist-sized or larger plastic containers. I can't seen to buy them anywhere. Does anyone have any left? Ideas?
