In Steelweaver's latest entry she wrote about how her muse was "impatient and easily distracted" and it inspired me to do a post about my muse. I guess it's important that you know your muse so that you can benefit from her influences. At first I thought I didn't know my muse, but I realise I do. She often gives me inspiration, and by just realising when these inspired moments occur, I got to know her a little better.

My muse is a stress-avoider. She's normally dormant, until I am working on something extremely stressful. The suddenly her head whips up and she becomes active. It usually doesn't matter what I'm doing, but it occurs more often than not when I am working on something I really don't want to be working on. "Oooh shiny!" kinda covers the basic idea.

I'll be ploughing on, shifting cloth or letters on a screen, and suddenly she sees something and wanders off, leaving me to cope with the project at hand, while she works out this lovely, wonderful, inspired thing I really shouldn't be thinking about right then. Like with the Pathfinder uniforms, when you're working with really drab linen, and she grabs white dupioni silk*, gold and silver ribbons, tape and thread, and flaunts them in my face. Or when I should really be writing about the Summoning and I figure it's a great day to update my website. Which I did, kind of a lot, these last two days.

Anyway, by the time I've freed up enough time to actually take the project from my muse's gropey fingers, she's already bored, flings the project in my face along with a design sketch, goes to sit on the sofa and sulk with tea and chocolate covered cookies and she's not coming out until the next deadline. Just my luck.

I've still got the entire atelier to tidy and clean, so I really shouldn't mope. How is your muse for you?

*) From the imaginary fabric stash in my brain, because I sure don't have any on hand**.
**) Of course. It wouldn't be any fun otherwise, now would it?
