In the morning, I cycled over to Hilligersberg to visit [livejournal.com profile] steelweaver for her birthday. NoKey joined me for a bit, and we enjoyed the sunshine. Parts of Hilligersberg (a suburb of Rotterdam) are quite charming.
We met Aerin, the new cat who is coloured in such a way that you hardly notice her on the dark sheepskins on the couch. She was a nice kitty, hardly shy at all as long as you pet her.

The booklet that was a gift (more little scientific facts to quote) as well as the RH stuff was well-received and the celery-coloured wool had a prominent spot on the table throughout my visit. [livejournal.com profile] twilightbanana showed me his idea's for a costume, including the scale-mail for his shoulders, and assured me he would be there next Saturday on the Anarquendor Elvenmeet.
I was just about to step out the door when her parents arrived, so that was good timing, and cycled back leisurely.

I spent a couple of hours at home, puzzled some with the new extensions to my sewing machine and tried out the quilting table and the creative bobbin case with various degrees of success. Suffice to say that now that the weather is pleasant again I will be ready to start quilting my first quilt. *sigh*

Then I dressed up in most of my 'wedding' outfit (minus the corset and turtleneck but with a purple blouse) and we took a train to Amsterdam. The sprinter took a route by Woerden, Breukelen and whatnot and we spent the hour of the trip reading our books. I had taken out Good Omens (Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett) again and NoKey would just start in Kushiel's Justice (Jacqueline Carey).

Once in Amsterdam, the mood took us. The difference between Amsterdam and Rotterdam is actually tangible. Amsterdam is very laid-back, with tourism oozing out of the shops on the Damrak. Weed is in the air (though we don't really like that). Rotterdam is a tight squeeze around the body.
We sauntered over the Dam, stopped to watch a street performer, and made our way to Sushi at the Taksteeg. [livejournal.com profile] ozjish, his girlfriend Linda, and their friends Floor and Alex joined us soon after. Greetings were exchanged and the infraggable Oshisu-san ordered Japanese beer. Kirian Ichiban (hihi).

We shared Super Maki sushi with the four of us, while Linda and Floor had some sashimi. There was some well-mannered frivolity*). Then there was more food. A lot of beef skewers, some tempura vegetables, and NoKey and I as well as Oz and Linda shared fried Salmon - thin slices of salmon covered in a light batter and fried in oil. Very delicious. There was also some sake.

After dinner (25 euro p.p.) we sauntered to the Spui where we entered De Beiaard for a beer. It was a nice pub and I was immediately reminded of the fun we had in the bars in Athens, Ohio. After a drink Nokey and I walked back to the station. We took the Spuistraat towards the dam and passed by the venue of which I had long forgotten the name: Vrankrijk. I once celebrated Ladyfest there. On the way back to the station we also passed by the Flying Pig, the Youth Hostel TommyCee and I stayed at during Ladyfest, those many years ago.

It was good seeing Oz again and it was a most enjoyable evening. I also most definitely need to eat more sushi...
