The Dead HD - Update
Aug. 23rd, 2005 10:56 amThe good news is that NoKey was able to salvage all my files, bookmarks, mail, and settings for KDE. As soon as I have a new HD installed with Linux in place, my computer will continue to exist just like it always did. I don't even need to reconfigure my KDE to have my favorite background, all my settings are saved. *phew*
The bad news is that we don't seem to be able to find a computer store that sells SCSI discs right now. Mycom and Dunnet both do not stock them, and I'm reluctant to go for another second-hand HD - next time I might not be so lucky.
This whole thing also complicates getting to my mail. I can read all incoming mail on the server using a Secure Shell connetion and doing the Mutt thing; but sending mail is going to be a bit more difficult. Until my comp is fixed, please be mailing me at
