A corset question
Feb. 17th, 2005 11:58 amSomehow, websites who do amazing costumes and wonderful pieces of research what you can bone bodices/corsets with, never really go into the depth of costuming. They have a thousand-and-one methods to bone a corset/bodice. You can use hemp cord, rope, steel, wood busks, plastic, whalebone, etc etc. They say every corset has anything between 2-4 layers of fabric. They say you need coutil for this, since this is strong, doubly-woven fabric which can take the strain of an X-cup.
But glaring droolingly at Devotion Corsets makes me wonder. Devotion Corsets uses velvet, silk, satin, and even organza in their corsets. No coutil in the historically correct way, in sight. They even use zippers in stead of busks.
I wonder if they line their corsets with coutil anyway. I know zippers can be strong but you can't really use your corset as a corset if you want to keep that zipper intact.
I'd love a bloodred velvet corset. Line it with coutil? Or is this impossible to make??
