Having made a saffron robe on Saturday, the lockmachine had yellow thread. And, I figured, this would be the perfect time to then lockstitch the gold part of my dress, seeing that I would not have to change threads in the lockmachine for it.
But first things first. To be able to lockstitch your pattern pieces, you'd have to have pattern pieces. And the gold satin was still on the bolt.

After vacuuming the floor, I laid out the first bits of the cloth. The center front would have to be cut on the fold, and the cutting example on the pattern showed that center front and sleeves would go nicely next to eachother. Vacuum, lay down, pin, pin, pin, pin, pin. Cut.
The rest would have to be cut in a different way. The cloth would be folded not width-wise but lengthwise. You try to fold about 8 meters of gold satin, which will not stay put, on a piece of floor that measures 160 by 300 cm.
I managed though, and the pieces were cut. The yellow thread was not quite a good match with the gold, and I changed the thread anyway, to replace it with a sandy brown that matched much better. I stay-stitched the front neckline, having learned from the wobbly neckline the first try of my 1880s top had, and then lock-stitched all pieces of the dress.
The pieces will remain in a box, until I get a chance to stitch them together.

I look forward to repeating these steps with the black satin. Somehow there's nothing quite as exhilirating as pinning pattern pieces on the floor, with your head down for about an hour, making you all light-headed and dizzy (not to mention cause muscle-aches in places that are quite unspeakable).
