The Elf Fotoshoot
Feb. 8th, 2004 09:00 pmToday was the day of the photoshoot. Our first real photoshoot, how exciting! Well, mostly it was very cold. But yes, it was very exciting. And very cold.
Exiting the train at Leiden, where we'd meet our pick-up, half an hour too early, left us plenty of time to have an early lunch and some tea, before Frank was there. Frank was the photographer. And part of the organisation. In the little van we met a father and his daughter who would play a fairy, and an internship of the Elf, who would do make up and take care of us. They still needed some extra batteries, and after a short trip around Lisse (beautiful church indeed) we could continue our way to the castle near the Keukenhof.
We found a side-building, and found a place where we could shelter. In between stormy rains and hail and wet snow, we had some sunny minutes. So basically, as soon as we were in the costume, it was pose pose and more posing until it started to rain again.
Those of you who have seen the Elisabeth (or rather, Arwen dress; Oz, your curtains are really going to be famous here) know that it's one of the coldest gowns I have. Though the material is sturdy, there is a low neck showing some cleavage, and no sleeves whatsoever. Which was great in the cold. I could keep my blissfully warm trousers on underneath it, but the boots had to go and were exchanged for soft silver slippers.
NoKey, I thought, had a warmer costume, with a tunic over his shirt, and trousers, and warm fleece coat over it all. But that he gets cold pretty quickly, and the wind didn't help at all.
So our pancaked faces might have been drawn tight by wind and cold. A pose together, standing with the castle in the background. Another pose, with me sitting on a leather jacket on a fallen tree, with the castle in the background. Me standing near a pond, with NoKey kneeling at my feet, with the castle in the background. A close-up of me alone, with the castle in the background. And on top of the hill, more posing of the both of us, our fingers blue with the cold...yes...with the castle in the background.
After we were done, the little fairy was summoned for her shoot. We did NOT envy the child, and felt quite sorry for her, as we sat in the van with the heater on. When finally NoKey's fingers were normal skincolour again (I had never had blue fingers before) we changed into our second outfits. Luckily this time I could wear multiple layers of cotton underneath a wizard's robe and black cloak. A mask hid my face from the wind. NoKey wore leather armour, which padded him not too well from the wind. Better than nothing anyway, he says. I am still proud of the schmink (grime/make-up) I put on his face, especially since you will be seeing it for a few more days....green always leaves a residue of yellow behind on the face. But the difference between the orc mask and the human skin was almost none.
More posing, luckily out of the wind this time. "Action pictures". And more. And with the girl. When the last picture was taken, I was glad my muscles could relax. We dressed to normal, took of most make-up, and gathered our stuff again. Then back in the van, back to the station. NoKey's make-up would only really be gone after a shower, and he scared some innocent muggles (HAH! Muggles are never innocent!!!! *evil cackle* Burn'em alllllllll!!!!!) when he hobbled as a good ghoul in search for Hot Cocoa. The holy word of H.C.! Bow before the allmighty Hot Cocoa!
After we got home we sat in the shower for maybe an hour, cleaning eachother's faces, before cooking Boerenkool. Just what we need to get warm. Some 10th kingdom to end this day before cuddling and snuggling up together. *satisfied grin*
