The X-mess [part I]
Dec. 22nd, 2003 08:46 pmSaturday I took a train to R'damn again. It had been fun having the house in V to myself again, and just doing the most neccessary laundy (underwear!). But I was also looking forward to seeing NoKey again. It's not much fun to have a back problem and then working at Gon still. I'm getting used to having the pain now. That's not a good sign I think. I try to keep on working, not to lose touch with the crew, trying to let my back get used to the work again.
Aside from this, I'm getting tired of this. Really tired. I'm growing used to the pain, but I don't like explaining about it. I've always been the type of 'bear it with a grin'. And now, after another month (?) of pain, it's getting to sound like whining. I hate whining. It reminds me of dogs who do nothing but follow you around. And I hate it the most when the whining comes from me, even if the problem is real. I just don't like to talk about it that much.
In any case, I took a train, with two bags of clothing and some text I need to study for that exam in January. In the train I saw Jimmy, the ex-crush and satanist who treated me like I was nothing (the way my old bully treats me). That dampened my spirits a bit.
But it was good seeing NoKey again.
At home I had worked on a skirt from the Blue Fabric I mentioned earlier. I figured it would look great for Christmas, so I had made a circle-skirt pattern. I cut it from one piece (the piece I bought measures 3x5 meters). All I needed to do was the seam at the bottom, which I finished Saturday Night. I also called my brother Jos. Sunday we would have a Christmas celebration in Steenwijk (up north, north from Zwolle, about a two hour drive by car). He has a car and lives quite close, but we never see him. I thought it would be nice to join forces and hitch a ride. So I called him and he said, quite hesitantly, that he'd pick us up at 9.45 at Oosterflank.
So the next morning NoKey and I dressed up, fondled the pretty outfits we were wearing (black and black for him, and the opera-skirt as it will be henceforth known with a black shirt and a black flower in my hair for me), and walked to the point where we'd meet. We looked around and didn't see my brother. At ten to ten, he called. "We've just left, we're still in Hellevoet, and we'll be there in half an hour." This is so typically Jos. He never has time (it seems) for his family, or he doesn't want to make the time or something. He had been complaining that it was such a long drive to the restaurant and yadda yadda. I totally agree, but when it comes to family and christmas (or other special celebrations) a distance smaller than a tenth of the equator is the top I'd go, I think. How long is the equator anyway?
So, I told Jos we'd then take a train, and we'd meet them there. I sure as hell didn't want to spend the next thirty minutes waiting, because Hellevoet-Oosterflank is nowhere near thirty minute drive, it's over 45 minutes.
So NoKey and I took a train to Utrecht and found out we had to wait 45 minutes there for a connection up North. Luckily, Luc picked us up from the station there, and I did a good deal of work on my mom's birthday present. I must be over 25% by now.
Assembled there were Mr and Mrs Bos (Luc's parents), Their daughter Roelien and her boyfriend, mom and Luc, Chris (mom's sis) and Ysbrand, NoKey and me. About 15 minutes later, my brother and his Gf arrived. So around one, everyone was there. An hour late, but still. They had missed a turn or something, gone towards Groningen in stead of towards Leeuwarden and all that.
The Chinese/Indonesian restuarant featured two buffets with 'raw' material which you could hand to a cook with a wok, or a tepan yaki; as well as a buffet with ice cream, one with pre-made stuff like Char Siu, Babi Pangang, Nasi, Bami, etc etc etc, and a buffet with fruits.
We certainly stuffed ourselves. Starters were Salmon, Chicken, or Sate. Then we were set loose. NoKey got started with big plates of Tepan yaki'd vegetables. I took smaller portions, first off was a shrooms, leeks, union, peppers and courgette combo, in honourable memory of the good food we had at NoKey's bday. Then I did a pre-made tour, with Char Siu, nasi, little eggrolls which were actually filled with veggies, and after that I did some more tours. NoKey kept on eating. Soon I got on with the fruits (mandarijntjes!!!).
After the food we had coffee at the house of Mr. and Mrs. Bos. They have a wonderful house which makes me jealous. Big garage with lots of place to tinker, large backyard, big fireplace in the middle of the beautiful livingroom.
Soon we took a train back home, and NoKey started feeling queasy. I worked some more on the present for mom, while he napped in the train.
He stayed home today, not feeling too well. I worked on my website. It is up on a server, but I want to install a counter before giving you all the address.
