I was really in the mood for sex a movie last night. So NoKey and I watched Contact, with Jodie Foster, while eating muchomacho yummy Boerenkool. That movie is kickass.
I must confess that there are a lot of movies I still want to see, but the lack of a vcr, a computer that will play .avi's and the funds-problem (everlasting student here) deprives me of watching all these movies. On the list are The Hours, The Ring, Pirates of the Caribbean, and many more.
The goosebumps crawled all over my arms when the signal was received, and I kept the goosebumps for at least 15 minutes after that. The mere idea that a signal from outtahspees is received, and it being such a strong signal, and then the fact that it turns out to be one of the earliest broadcasts sent into space by mankind...even if that was a speech of Hitler, declaring the Olympics for '36 to be opened. That was a shock to everyone and should ring a good number of alarm bells with the viewer.
What if there is life on other planets, what kind of image will they get from us if they listen to our planet? How will they see the pollution, the hate, the wars. It makes Earth look so tiny and insignificant. It also makes me realise that if we destroy our environment because we can't seem to make a compromise, we have no place to run to.
After all, we're all Earthlings. Why do we fight? Can there be no compromises with religion, lands, wealth and power?
I hated Jodie's boss, magnificent actor. Really got me from my seat (and on his way to strangle him). His role made me realise that life aint easy and there will always be people like him around to spoil the day.
Good special effects, good message. Goooooood Movie.
But then again, I might be a freak.
