Music and Celebration
May. 13th, 2003 06:54 amAround two pm I was done cooking. I had spent about four hours in the kitchen preparing the pilaf-sauce (onion, leeks, peach) and the curry-sauce (mushrooms, curry). I sliced six cucumbers and set everything to cool and I was ready for the first visitors.
Mr. Finn was the first to arrive, just before six. Soon, Sebastiaan, TC, Tjerk, The Moon, SuzieQ, Renfield, Inge, and Ramon arrived. When the Dragon finally arrived (he had driven himself into Rotterdam for some strange reason) I started cooking. The rice kind of burnt, because grandma used to say that rice should not be cooked in too much water (but this was no solution either). I had enough rice anyway, so that was good. The trouble with having only four burners on six pots was soon solved. I had about 10 litres of pilafsauce (more than ¾ is still left of that) and that doesn’t cool down fast.
After the eating, when my brother finally arrived around half past ten, there was little left to eat. Jos dug into the cucumber and sauces bigtime (like he always does, he’s a big eater) and the pineapple from Gonzales was all gone by the time Seb, Inge and Mr. Finn did the dishes. Then The Dreamwalker popped in for a beer as well.
There was much laughter and talks, and most of the talks were about larp. That’s the downside to inviting 90% larpers to your birthday.
Anyway, I got spoiled on presents. TC bought me girly glitterstuff, a pick and an eyemask, while Suzie and Tjerk helped me out with cutlery and plates and some chocolate. Inge had bought me D&D-die; Mr. Finn bought me an orange inflatable chair and Seb got me a book on Alchemy and Dreams, very interesting. Ramon bought me an expensive present: Davidoff Coolwater! And Jos also had bought me D&D-die. The Moon gave me a card and a big big hug, as well as The Dragon (lots of hugs from him). What was fun too was that Tjerk gave me a card with his last money on it: 2.20 euro. *smile*
I know I’m difficult to find a nice present for and the fact that all these sweet friends of mine traveled for hours to just have dinner with me really means a lot.
I was just sad that Oz didn’t make it. I missed you, mellon nîn.
Mr Finn and Seb stayed over and truth be told, there’s nothing more rewarding than to extend the fun for another bit and have a small aftertalk at candlelight. Slept lousily though because all three of us were snoring. They cought a very early bus and now I’m just cleaning a bit and making my bed and so on.
Tomorrow my father and Detty and Raphael will come over and hopefully finish the pilafsauce off for me, but I doubt they’ll eat it all. I have enough stuff left to last me a lifetime, I hardly ever drink beer and I have over a crate left. Not to mention the pickled onions, five bottles of cola etc. But that stuff will be good for years.
So, another year and another party added to my life. It was good fun.
