Sander and I went to the Dutch Elfwood meeting in Utrecht today. I really have to watch what I say because I just know hell read it. But hey, what the
We took some bla bla uninteresting train and just hauled some major coffeecups at the kiosk when he spotted Alex and some other dutch elfwooders. We just stood right underneath the really appalling meetingpoint flag in the middle of the grand station hall, but we were all nerds that day :p
When most people arrived, we walked towards some pub/cafe thing. I mean, it kind of looked irish or so, and they served pints of beer in stead of glasses but whatever. We took over three enourmous tables (read that as: there were people sitting at a table, but we sat down with them until they left) and everyone hauled out their dummies.
A dummy, for all you dumbies out there, is a book with blank pages. Every page can be drawn upon. That was kind of the entire idea behind the meeting. At three pm everyone had grabbed a dummy and was drawing. At that time, we still had reasonable lights. But at 5, when it was getting darker outside, the lights were dimmed inside of the cafe as well. You just bend over your drawing some more and continue, ofcourse.
At seven, I woke up from my drawing-hypnosis, and we ordered some foodstuff. There were burgers or spareribs, and I must say, the burgers looked better than they tasted. The spareribs really looked yummy, Tom had some and I was very tempted to steal some from his plate, but he was sitting too far away from me. Besides, when I make a drawing, I use my fingers for the shading and with greasy fingers you can really screw up someones dummy.
At eleven, Sander and I left, and I can really not describe what I have drawn and how. I shall try though. I can remember a monster-thingy with wings in Roberts dummy. The monster flying up, has an evil grin on his face and I wrote next to it Im coming up, so you better get this party started.
I can still remember the conversation with Arjen I had about monsters: Every time I find a moster in someones dummy, I giggle. Come on, as long as theyre not drooling theyre cute, right? So in Arjens dummy I made this really cute one. I started out with a biiig smile, gums and teeth (4 teeth) and all. Then, above that, big sad black eyes with little twinkly lights in them. In his hands he held a pencil with eraser to his face, and the cute thing had rock-n-roll hair! On the opposite page I wrote a small story, something coming down to Step back or Ill erase myself, and laying off the alcohol.
At half past one I was in my bed, exhausted and exhilerated but satisfied. I must have drawn more than ever in one day. I even have a sore back to prove it!
