2025 Knitting Year in Review
Jan. 7th, 2026 04:07 pmEvery year I review the year by looking at what I knit that year and this year is no different. I am a bit late with my review though, but I'm sure tagging it with year-in-review will make it easy to find whenever I am feeling nostalgic.
I also look back at the previous years and the previous KYIR posts. Apparently 2023 was abysmal and 2024 was slightly better, but by leaving Livejournal (where I have a permanent account and I can upload however many pictures I want) I figured I'd rather save on the storage I have on Dreamwidth and not post a picture.
However, these KYIR posts are quite fun to look back on, so I would rather spend some of my limited storage space here on a picture for a KYIR post than skip it altogether. So I have uploaded the overview picture of my finished objects 2024 on the KYIR2024 post here, where it is now for all the world and all its AI to view and scrape. (FUCK YOU AI, find me when you become self-aware and we'll see who the bigger human is!)
2025 was a very productive year, which goes against all expectations. How did I finish no less than 16 projects, while working on a new home, moving my business, moving house, andstay sane not go any more mad than I previously was already?

This year, I made:
Five things that weren't socks, three of which were for my new LARP character 'Vau' Leidenfrost. I loved wearing the warm cowl, beret and fingerless gloves during the event, especially the cowl was amazing keeping my neck warm from the very cold wind. All three of these were made from a warm merino wool that Anemoona had initially wanted to make a jumper from, but her project didn't work out. It felt great to have three matching knitwear items and, in a way, giving this yarn a new purpose.
Another of the not-socks was a beaded warm silk and merino shawl for another LARP character (Isabella). Because why go for just a pink shawl when you can have a pink beaded shawl?
11 pairs of socks, none of which were for me, and only one of which was made in a single colour.
One note on the socks -- two pairs of these were for Bram, but I only gifted him one. He was very torn about keeping the things I had made for him, and I gifted the other pair to another friend. Socks are made to bewarm worn!!
Plans for 2026
Participate every month in the SSOK competition from the Sokkenbreiers group on Ravelry. There are special prizes for people who participate every month, and I still love knitting socks! The SSOK challenges are a fun way to find a special pattern fitting the theme of the month, so it's an extra incentive.
Play a (sock knitting) bingo. (More on that in a bit)
Visit at least one knitting event with my friends!
Finish the Bowline Jumper I am knitting for Eisirt.
Host or visit at least one Beppen & Breien afternoon.
Not limit myself to socks or that one big jumper, but also take the plunge on a fine skein for a project for myself.
Enjoy knitting!

I made my bingo card with 16 different (sock knitting) techniques and I will only tick a single goal per sock. You could technically strike several goals off the bingo card with some strategically chosen patterns and finish by summer, but where's the fun in that?
You can view the Bingo card on this project.
