2023 Knitting Year in Review
Jan. 7th, 2024 11:59 amWell, it's been a quiet year on the knitting front. Most evenings I was just gaming to relax, and the problem was exacerbated by the fact that Netflix didn't really have interesting things to watch. If you're binging 10 seasons of a series, it's easier to sit down and knit than if you're running away from a killer in Dead by Daylight.
All in all, I finished an all-time low of 3 projects this year:
E6gsy's Vanilla TUP; a relaxed, no-nonsense pair of socks eating up some Fabel from my stash.
Ksenja's Säärystimet palmikoilla; the leg-warmers I knit for Ksenja for the summer event of Weerklank. They are a cute cable, but of course as these were used for larp I immediately got them stuck and snagged them on a tree branch, distorting the stitches. Also, they sag down as I walk - which I suppose any leg warmer does when you're outdoors and active. I should really get some pictures of these some day.
The Snowflake jumper.
As usual, the jumper is a bit of a story. I originally cast it on in a size XL and ended up with such a wide neckline and extra space, frogging it seemed to be the only prudent thing to do. I started over in January of 2023 and finally finished it in Octobre. And the jumper is so incredibly nice, I love it! I wore it to Christmas dinner, tea at my mom's and the New Year's party as well. I love it so much I am considering making it again, which will be easy with the notes I keep.
As for 2024: I will continue knitting, but nowhere near the furious pace I had in 2019 or 2020. There's a lot of wool in my stash that needs a hand to become gorgeous items, and that will keep me entertained for a while. Plenty of socks to go!
I have two kinds of stash: Sock Yarn, which technically isn't stash but still manages to fill two boxes in my Kallax / Expedit, and Nice Yarn. I have ideas for some of the Nice Yarn, but one of them is a thin jumper or a tee knit on 3 mm needles. The jumper is a bit baggy so I am a bit doubtful it will look nice on me, and I already have three full jumpers for winter so do I really need a fourth? It will also be a hell to knit as 3 mm is near sock gauge and you will need a TON of stitches to actually make a full jumper from it.
Another potential Nice Yarn project is a vest with cables in a purple Geilsk, which will also be on 3 mm needles and will have cables to boot. Err...not a great plan. But what else am I going to make in three skeins of Geilsk fingering weight yarn that is too scratchy for my skin?
I am also considering picking up and finishing off a pair that has been lying around for a while. The Soxx no. 3 were made from scraps and I was quite done with them so I cast them off, but it turns out they're an impossibly small size no-one will fit. It'll be a small effort to put them back on the needles (I believe these were knit top-down) and finish them in a larger size so someone can actually wear them. The purple and lime colour scheme is quite vivid and I'm sure that in a size 39 there will be someone who wants to wear these.
Enough ideas for this year. Now I just need something to watch or an audiobook to listen to while I knit.
