Announcing Project Snowflake

janestarzJust too excited about casting on another big project and I decided not to wait for my charity knitting to be done. It's time for Project Snowflake!
Snowflake is a pattern by Tin Can Knits, who are fast becoming a trusted and loved pattern maker. Not sure how I got around to putting this on my queue, but the plan is to use Malabrigo Sock.
I've had the yarn for quite a while, and I intended to knit the Solstice jumper from it, and when that didn't work out I wanted to knit the Poison Oak from it. I screwed up on Solstice, dropped a stitch or two I couldn't pick up in the brioche section and decided against starting over. It was so hard to stop frogging -- because you can't really tell which were the yarn-over stitches; it just all had to go.
Poison Oak was going to be really strange looking for my tall body and wide hips. I estimated the front point to reach my knees and really not look very flattering once the jumper was done. I frogged that as well.
The Malabrigo Sock is a lush yarn, and I had ordered several skeins extra. All of them are in different dye baths. This should not be a problem because I will be knitting Snowflake with yarn held double. Because there are three skeins of purple and two of the dark blue, the lace yoke will be in dark blue, and the main body of the jumper will be purple. I fully anticipate having to order extra yarn. The woe.
I quickly cast on 40 stitches for a swatch and decided to measure with just three centimeters knitted. This is going to bite me later on if I don't do it properly, I know. From the tiny swatch it looks like I'm spot on gauge with needles 3.5 mm, but I should really pace myself, be patient, and knit a proper swatch. So that's going to happen first.
Sprig is still drying. It's taking forever because the temperature in the bedroom is pretty low.
I'm considering re-arranging my tags because I'm not sure I'll want a long list of Projects. But maybe that's not a bad thing.
