In my post-Sock Madness rush to knit anything but socks from the Madness, I've picked up the vanilla sock I started on a while waiting for the Madness to start. A small skein of 48 grams of sock yarn shouuuuuld be enough for a pair of socks with contrast heel, toe and cuff, right? The logic behind this thinking was that if I have 48 grams of yarn left after knitting a pair of socks for Eisirt with the rest of the skein, i.e. 52 grams, that seems totally do-able.

Another Vanilla sock 2

When Kat dropped by on Easter monday, I got about this far. This is the first sock of the sister socks placed on a sock blocker of size EU36/37. Not a very large size sock. And considering I cut the yarn right around the part for a perfectly matched start for sock 2, at about 25 grams of yarn still left on the ball, and knowing that a finished toe should measure about 5 centimeters, I have problems.

These socks will be so tiny, it's almost not worth finishing them. I don't know any people with these kinds of tiny feet.

Options:
- Finish regardless. Hey, socks will stretch, right?
- Knit a longer beige toe
- Find another colour to match the yarn.

I was looking at my stash, hoping to find something that would match this self-striping yarn, and obviously blue, beige, white and grey are the main colours. The beige I'm using for the contrast cuff, heel and toe is just a small 50 gram skein, so it won't be enough to do both feet in it as well. I do have two leftovers of dark grey, but I'm not sure mixing them up will work. And either one is too little to do both feet with, so I'd have to use both to even do this.

So now I'm torn. Do I frog back to the heel of sock 1 and knit the entire foot in the two colours of grey? Maybe that would look weird.
Do I knit the second sock swiftly and see how far I will get? I suspect there is a little of this self-striping yarn left over when I get to this point on sock 2 as well. That would mean that I can divide the leftover yarn over the two socks just to make sure it is all used up and pray it will get me a larger size sock.

Orrrr do I just cast on another sock and deal with this conundrum at a later time? I doubt it, because that's not my style. I think I will swiftly knit sock 2 and hope that I will get to a decent size with the leftovers!
