2020 Knitting Year in Review
Dec. 31st, 2020 03:33 pmWelcome to the official Knitting Year in Review post for 2020 and boy, what a year it has been.
We may be overwhelmed by 2020 and it's been one heck of a crazy year, the world sighing and bent under the Covid-19 pandemic. But this review is about the knitting I did in 2020.
To be honest, my creativity suffered this year, and knitting took a bit more of a back seat after finding a fun community on the Discord of Overcharged Egg, who makes YouTube videos about Cities: Skylines, a game I also love to play. Spending more time chatting to people cut in on my knitting time, and I struggled to keep entertained while knitting. Although I love knitting while watching TV, it was a little harder this year to find something to watch. These three factors all contributed to a smaller list of FO's this year, although it's still pretty impressive what I did make!
I finished 15 projects this year, and revisited 1 old knitting project to change it.

This past year has been plenty hard on everyone, and I'm still in "waiting mode": Waiting for things to return to normal, waiting for the vaccine. I'm having a hard time thinking of what I would want to do in 2021 because of it.
Despite the weird times, I managed to follow my plans for 2020 pretty well, although obviously visiting the knitting-themed event with friends was a little difficult this year.
Plans for 2021:
Hang in there!

- I made 10 pairs of socks this year, 9 pairs were for friends and family and one cotton & wool blend pair was for myself. I haven't worn them yet.
- I joined the Sock Madness again this year, but with the pandemic weighing on my mind I found it hard to concentrate and made many mistakes. I bowed out in Round 3, a slip-stitch and lace number costing me all my spoons. Socks slowly fell from my good graces afterwards, instead focusing on large projects.
- After wrestling with and frogging the Songe d'été I finished a linen lace top for myself after successfully knitting Eisirt a warm jumper, and I've been working on a striped jumper for myself ever since. (It's coming along nicely!)
- I knitted a hat and two pairs of mittens, although the mittens for myself (not pictured) still need to have the ends woven in.
- After a big scandal followed the new Ravelry site design and people were being bullied for speaking up, I left Ravelry for a while. I do log in occasionally, but prefer not to use the site.
- And in the theme of "make it work" I frogged the separate toe of my old tabi socks and knit a regular toe, so Eisirt could wear my old broken seed stitch socks.

Plans for 2021:
- Expect socks to make a come-back this year. At the start of the pandemic I calculated I would have enough yarn to last me three years with my (then) speed of knitting. (18 hours of knitting over six days for a pair of socks) If anything, I could use a distraction if we're still in lockdown around February and might even join the Madness.
- If all else fails, I might even get back to my hexagon quilt just to give me something to do.
- Knit in the sunshine, preferably outdoors.
- Finish the Pumkin Ale and the Poison Oak that are currently on the needles.
- Figure out what I want to do with the Bagtanker: frog and re-use or donate.
Hang in there!
