Sleevils and v-necks
Jun. 20th, 2020 10:48 amThe Songe d'été is currently on hold because starting over really sucks. Instead, I picked up a simple project: the sleeves of the Stonehaven sweater.
When we started on the Songe d'été KAL I pondered finishing the Stonehaven sweater first, but decided against it. It would be a good project to pick up when I hit a snag in the Songe d'été. That is exactly what happened.
It's been a pretty rough week for us. Eisirt had the early morning shift so both of us were pretty tired in the evenings. An easy project that doesn't require much thinking was just the thing.
I still had two skeins of yarn left, but I figured I wouldn't need both to finish the project. I might as well attach the front and back of one skein to the project, and leave the other skein untouched. Maybe someone else would need it in their project and I could send them a full skein instead of some short bits.
I started rewinding one skein into a center-pull ball and then stopped. The Geilsk skeins are very good already at center-pull!
But after a little while this created such a big tangle, I spent a long night untangling everything. And then a few more hours the next day.

After sorting out the yarn-barf, soon I was here. The downside to being so tired is I also forget to tally my rows. Luckily this pattern is easy to keep track of, with the patterned rows. I used a stitch marker on both sleeves, walking the marker up towards where I was knitting to see where I was.
I'm pretty sure the second sleevehead is ...slightly different...from the first. But hey! They're done! Nobody is going to see! I'm not going to frog and reknit a sleeve head.
So now we come to the final steps. Like the ribbing around the v-neck. I'd already joined the front and back at the shoulders, so I could dive right into picking up the stitches at the neckline. I pick up 10 stitches on a crochet needle and slide them onto a circular needle to knit them later.

It's a good thing it's Saturday, I can focus and do this RIGHT. At first I only picked up 34 stitches around one side of the neckline where I needed 51. Withsome a lot of help from Jannigje, we figured out how best to do it.
Once the ribbing is done, all that's left to do is sew the side seams and set the sleeves.
I'm so excited this is almost done! Eisirt will have a beautiful new sweater to wear this winter, and I've made a big dent in my stash! He'll be so comfortable in this wool and cotton blend, I'm sure.
