The Songe d'été starts of with the neckline band. It took a little bit of getting used to. Normally I'm perfectly capable of knitting and Netflixing at the same time, but with this part of the pattern that is not recommended. The lace portion of the neckline band is knit mostly with twisted stitches, and that means that the return row isn't just straight purling along, as with many other lace patterns. There are twisted purl stitches on the return row. It makes for a twisted stitch with more definition on the right side of the fabric.

Starting of with very slippery, very pointy metal needles took some getting used to. There is no way this linen will stay glued to the needles like it would with bamboo. It was quite wondrous to see that I only pulled the needle out of my work by accident once, and that was after switching to a circular needle.

After finishing the 38 rows of Lace pattern A they had me cut off my yarn and pick up stitches on the other end. Lace chart B is a perfect mirror of Lace chart A. It means the original cast-on row is invisible from the right side, and it sits right at the back of the neckline. Another 38 rows from chart B and now I am here:

Neckline band

Where the white yarn lies over the work: that's the centre-back neckline and where the original cast-on was formed. Clever design!

There's some more twisted stitches in the mix and I can't figure out why we have to knit a twisted SSK when it looks *just* like a normal K2tog. But I'm trying to be a good girl and follow the pattern.
I love how the purled stitches are pulled so far open it looks like there are just ladder spokes between the rows of twitsted stitches. It really is very clever!

This pattern also has a beautiful intricate 3-stitch i-cord on the edge that is a little different from what I've done before. But the i-cord isn't knitted each row! It has a little less height than the normal rows, which makes the lace band lie curved like this.

From what I can gather, the i-cord edge is also the top edge of the top. At least, that would make *so* much sense. But we'll see.
Next up: the back panel!
