The Qualification Round ended last weekend as we were driving home and with many people stuck indoors because of Covid-Quarantine everyone is going mad waiting for the next round. I'm already quite fed up with the "are we there yet" equivalent of the Sock Madness.
And then the "specs dropped" -- the specifications of what yarn to use for the next round were published, which means the pattern would follow within 48 hours.
Speculation went even more wild...
The teams were named after patterns written by Bellybuttonknits, an avid Raveler who passed away recently. The teams being named in her honor is a wonderful gesture, and I was placed in team Llama Llama Duck. Hence the new LJ icon! It will be my avatar during the Madness on the forums. I always add my username, as more people are likely to pick up the image from the internet. Gotta stand out!
The specs for Competition Round 1 are puzzling, calling for a long yardage of two colours of yarn to knit this pair of socks as well as smaller-than-average needle size. Speculation runs wild. Would it be mosaic knitting? Double knitting? Cables?
One knitter said that she'd probably have to go down a needle size because she has a tight hand of knitting, and that promted a question by Tan from our team.
Something about switching needle sizes. Something like "but can I use needles 2.25 mm?"
Gâh! This is exactly what grinds my gears during the Madness, especially when it happens in the Question Thread. The dreaded Question Thread is for legitimate questions only. Not "is this colour yarn okay?" or stupid questions like "can I use a needle size smaller?" because the rules specifically state:
(emphasis mine)
I replied the above quote to Tan's silly question directly with: "This was in the Rules. You should know this." and a link to the rules.
Tan immediately removed her silly question and hasn't posted since. I hope I made her cry *).
The only redeeming factor is that she at least posted it in the Team thread, not the question thread. But when you sign up for the Madness, you have to read the rules and state in your signing-up e-mail that you have read the rules.
It would be helpful if you remembered what they said as well.

*) Okay, so I realise this is a horrible thing to say. I don't want to make anyone cry. The problem is that the Sock Madness is run by a dozen or less volunteers who do this in their free time. All they ask in return for their efforts is that you read the rules and abide by the rules. And I see soooo many idiots on the Sock Madness Forever forum that take up the mods' valuable time asking DUMB AS FUCK questions that have already been answered in the Rules or in earlier posts in the same thread that I really have zero tolerance for stupid questions like this. I'm done playing nice to idiotic people who can't even read a text. I have better things to do.
And now I feel bad for maybe making someone cry.

Needle Choices:
You may use any knitting style (i.e., magic loop, two circulars, or DPNs).
You may change your needle size from that listed in the pattern to achieve (as closely as possible) the gauge given in the pattern.
