Already two pairs done
Jan. 14th, 2020 09:46 amThe new year has barely started but already I've finished two sock WIPs. The first one was cast on December 21st, and I knit almost a whole foot during the pizza party at my mother's place. The sock was simple yet interesting, with a pattern that was emphasised by the self-striping yarn. If I ever knit this pattern again, I'll be sure to repeat the pattern four times over the leg, instead of just two times. There were large swathes of stockinette. The side-view of these socks isn't that interesting, but this view is:

Back of leg, with the heel poking up and the cuff facing down
These strawberry and chocolate socks have already been claimed by Marjolein. Yay!
The other pair I finished was tossed aside for a while, and when I picked it back up I wondered why I never finished them. With a simple lace pattern that is easy to read and remember, these were so much fun to knit! And since they're made in a cotton-wool mix yarn with merino toe, cuff and heel, I'm keeping these.

Wool is too itchy for me to wear, but when mixed with cotton and in cold weather, they're far less itchy. So I'm cleaning out my sock stash, keeping the merino and cotton-wool socks, and finding good homes for the rest.
A few years ago when I was writing up my Knitting Year in Review, I realised it would be so much better to photograph my socks all oriented the same way. I doubt anyone has noticed, but last year's socks were all photographed side-by-side, pointing their toes to the left. This year I wanted to switch it up a bit and I photographed the socks as you see above. I'm limited by the shape of the socks and I'd love to get all my projects in a square picture instead of having them all portrait-oriented.
The problem with putting one sock upside down and the other the right side up is that you can't tell anymore how incredibly well I've matched the stripes.
And I match the stripes because I can. Because it makes for a prettier pair. Not to just ignore it completely in the resulting "look what I made" photograph.
So it's back to the drawing board...and I'll have to take new pictures of these socks when the light is better. Grumble grumble.
