Needing some inspiration

I am in desparate need for some inspiration... in June our school is hosting a fashion show to celebrate their 25th year. I've asked to join in the celebration, and now I need to design a dress.
I also have a gorgeous grape-coloured silk crêpe lying around, and a working bustier block for myself.

Now I just need to decide on a pattern. The theme is 1920s/1930s I believe, but the drop-waist will make me look like a cinderblock. I was thinking of making a long gala dress, not sure about the neckline, with a corset back and steel boning to nip the waist in a bit. I should probably get to sketching soon!

Sleeping poorly doesn't help, I feel exhausted most of the time. Salad for lunch and lots of water might help....

The theme is so big it spans half a century, so I'll probably go for a crossover between 1950s day dress and gala dress, reminiscent of Claire Foy's garments in the Crown.
