After Eurosing (which was fabulous, darling!) I got confined to my blanket fort. I went down with a fever and slept for two days. Monday night I did start a bit of crochet and by Tuesday I was casting on a fresh sock.

I'm still under the weather and I'm hoping to milk it for some extra time off *cough cough*, although getting back to work too soon can mean everything makes a comeback. Which is probably how I got my second bout of illness this year and January isn't over yet.

With Sock Madness looming just over the horizon, I asked around on Facebook if there are people willing to wear my socks. I expected a reply or two, nothing major, so I advertised them as 'the best thing to keep your feet warm on a larp' and told people not to expect a finished pair before summer. By the time the comment storm died down, I had several happy recipients lined up, including a size 36, a 45 and a size 48 (!!). None of these are very good for the Madness, as the size 36 is too small and would require me to perform sock surgery after finishing a round. And I don't have to tell you the added stress for such large size socks when 9 inches of foot is all that is required to pass to the next round.

I had happily cast on the Dither, a stranded sock I'd chosen in my last stash dive whose zip loc baggie was waiting patiently. It features a large chart that would get me a long way towards the larger size, and the colours were not very feminine. They would suit Lothar and his size 48 well.
Two days of frantic knitting in my blanket fort and I've progressed to here:

Socks - Dither
On the largest sock blockers I have: size 42/43. Still a ways to go yet.

The chart is done and I've knitted it twice now. I'm not looking forward to repeating the chart on the second sock at the moment, so I'm looking around for excsuses. My mind has actually settled on Second Sock Syndrome. It just wants to explore wonderful new patterns and not fuss about with second socks. Finishing a pair is stupid.
And I'm trying to justify all of my whinging with the excuse that once the Madness is over, it's fun to only have to knit one more sock to finish a pair. Those are all quick wins! It would feel great to have some quick wins after the frantic scramble of the Madness. (Because cheerleading is, apparantly, stupid as well. My mind is a six-year old at the moment.)

The good news is, I've got plenty of these puppies queued, a fully loaded Netflix account, and a ton of free needles at my service. Off we go.
