During the Wildling weekend in October I had so much fun I decided not to retire Windsong but go to Booyah. With Nieske's old (recycled) longsleeves tearing at the seams I needed some new costume items. I have a few basic blocks figured out for myself now (still need to tackle trousers and skirts though) so creating a tunic was a matter of hours. Adding decorative stitching, banded sleeves and all the extra bit took most of the day though. Because Muse.
I also sewed a new warm short-sleeved jumper to go with it, which disappears completely under the coat, just as intended.

And then right in the middle of the photoshoot prep Muse decided to design a coat that would allow the banded sleeves of the tunic to peep out, that had striking lines and a beautiful hem.

And oh yes, it was also the most difficult technical pattern I've designed to date. With a half-raglan sleeve that drops off the shoulder, various lines that makes the darts invisible and a pocket entrance in the skirt part that disappears completely when my hand isn't in it. The hood is connected like a continuous shawl collar and has a funky-looking facing, and the outside of the hood, like the dropping sleeves, is in two parts as well. The waistband at the underbust turns out to sit at my actual waist because my cup underside is 12 centimeters, which ends at the natural waist. *sigh*

The various lines are designed to look slimming, tapering to the waist, and breaking up large surfaces. It's a coat full of contrasts, with a band here and a band there. A LOT of curved lines to sew as well.
I'm very pleased with the result, as the "butterfly wing" skirt back lies flat and the seams are almost perfectly still, no tension because the curves don't line up, although I do admit to clipping some of the curved seams to even be able to sew them.

In the end I asked my friends whether a dot on the back wing was necessary and we decided against it (don't want to look like a ladybug!) and my suggestions this would be a Moth Coat was squashed by Storm Cry's suggestion it was actually reminiscent of "Papillus Tempestus", the Chaos Butterfly. (Also, how useful would it be to be blinded by daylight and always searching for sources of light?)

I bought a beautiful grey cotton with white spiderwebbed lines on the market and combined it with a cotton canvas instead of the soft draping linen I initially wanted to use. The coat skirt fans out beautifully because the fabrics are so sturdy. It's fully lined, of course, and has four silver-and-black buttons to close. Because it's cotton, I will be able to wear it during the summer event as well.
I hope to get some beautiful pictures of the thing tomorrow at the event!
