Out for a walk
Jul. 19th, 2017 07:42 amIt's been a while since I've praised my furry family. I just love our cats. Doortje is getting on a bit in age, but she loves to take care of us and is mothering everyone, even Kwibus (when he lets her). Kwibus is now a little over a year old and sometimes doesn't listen but mostly is pretty well-behaved. We even taught him not to beg for his food and he meows very very little (I can't abide yowling cats).
We've also taught Kwibus from an early age that if he wants to go outside the front door he wears a little harnass. And because outside = harness on, he stands patiently waiting for us to strap him in.
A little while back I took him out the front door and left the door ajar. Imagine my surprise when we got to the corner of the gallery, I turned around and I found Doortje sitting on the front mat, looking around happily. I guess she was curious where we went, opened the door with her paw and sat down as soon as we were spotted.
She now does this almost every time we go out the front door with Kwibus. I don't have any fear of her running off either, she's lived on the streets and she is VERY happy to be with us. She knows how life outside our apartment is and she doesn't go looking for it. She just wants to make sure we're okay and check out the smells of the gallery.

Here you see Eisirt with Kwibus in the background, while Doortje makes sure we're safe.
Kwibus is the kind of goofball that could easily drop off the balcony or gallery because he was chasing a fly and wasn't paying attention to his feet, so the harnass protects him from a two-story tumble. Despite his bravoure when we have visitors, he's actually very scared of unannounced people turning up (visitors always ring the bell, so he knows bell = new people coming to see him). Last time we were out front the neighbour came around the corner and Kwibus panicked. Luckily, he followed Doortje back into the house, but it confirms he can't go out without a harnass.
Summer is a perfect excuse to go out with them more often. Before Kwibus joined us, Doortje was the one in the harnass out front, but she doesn't really care for the excursion. If she wants something new to look at, she goes bat-spotting at night on the balcony. Zip! Zoom! Woosh!
