Orenda Picknick
Jul. 10th, 2017 08:26 pmThe (OC) Orenda Picknick was held at the Arnhem Openluchtmuseum (Open Air museum). The museum is great, it's pretty large and makes for a wonderful walk around old buildings like the cheese factory, the village, and several types of Dutch Farmsteads. There's a tramline around the park that has two or three trams from 1931 driving visitors around. Most of the employees of the museum are in costume, and both employees and visitors loved that we came in costume ourselves.
The time periods we wore ranged from simple larp gear to niche-socialist-socialite, from 1870 to 1912 or so. Orenda is a Victorian alternate history larp that has strong fantasy influence (no costume snobs allowed!). The organisers had asked Ork and Polychromical to come take pictures, but the latter was ill and the former was too busy, so I was the only one toting a big camera around and I got to practice my Photography Fu.

(Part of) the group that was present and in costume.

My Epic hat of Awesome (+3 Charisma bonus) kept the sun out of my eyes and finished off the outfit perfectly.

Riding the tram
I'm not used to dressing up as a high class lady, and I was kind of glad to squatting in the midst of some duck droppings just so my costume got a proper introduction. I am of the faith of "If it wanted to be clean, it shouldn't have become a larp costume" and apparantly I treat all my costumes that way. The skirt fabric is so smooth, drapes so gorgeously and holds its shape so well when being pressed I'm not even worried about the duck poo. I was taking pictures, so it was all for a good cause too.
Ahem. Aaaaanyway.
I had a blast traipsing around museum trying to get proper portraits of everyone. There's also a few gems where the tension between the characters is visible in the photo, so here's a few of my favourites:

"A Meeting in the Park" - featuring the Scot and Sigunne

At the end of the afternoon, we bade goodbye and walked past some of the buildings we didn't have a chance to see yet and then we went home. But not before
steelweaver snapped this photograph of Eisirt and myself. (He traded one of his shifts to be able to join me and then wore his pretty grey suit to make me even more happy! He is the best! *smooch*)
