Dropping out of the Sock Madness
May. 14th, 2017 04:10 pmI just realised that I made a massive mistake on the leg of my sock. I’ve knit row 3-20 three times, in stead of row 3-23 as the pattern states. As a result, my diamonds are not separated by a straight vertical bit, like so many other’s are.

Even if this were to count as “an honest mistake”, I’d have to do it right on the second sock to stay in the race. It looks to me like I have a choice between three options:
Ask the mods and knit sock 2 properly resulting in a mismatched pair (so re-knit sock 1 to have a matching pair after the race);
Ask the mods, knit sock 2 properly and re-knit sock 1 again;
Drop out and not worry about following a pattern.
Since I’m not looking forward to spending any more time on these socks than absolutely necessary and I don’t want a mis-matched pair, I have decided to drop out of the race. This way I don’t have to trouble the mods either, and it’s a relief to not have to worry about the race anymore, as my life has been quite topsy-turvy lately.
This was my first Sock Madness and I’m proud to have been part of this team. I’ve had a great time competing for a spot but I had already decided to enter as a cheerleader only next year. I love making pretty things, but it is starting to feel a bit like work, and knitting should stay a hobby. It’s a happy coincidence that I don’t have to take up a space in round 5 that can go to someone who is very motivated for the race. It’s been a great honour and a lot of fun, but my race ends today.
