Today I worked a bit on the stays, but now I'm torn. I've cut white coutil for the strength layer but a single-layer corset sounds so....bland.

I'd love to have a fashionable fabric on the outside, but I really don't have a clue what I can get away with and what would work and what would be sort of period enough. I've got cotton canvas in several colours, a dark blue dupion, and some light-beige linen but none of it feels right.

I will wear it under this dress, to give you an idea of the period.

I'm not knowledgeable about the renaissance era, but as corsets were underwear, I don't think they would've used a fancy fashion fabric for it. Just one neutral color.

Sigunne found a purple linen in my stash. It's stretch-linen, so I fused it to the coutil and it's really sturdy now. The purple is a few shades lighter than the dress, probably the best description is "lilac".
