Finished Round 2
Mar. 28th, 2017 09:12 amThese Socks are the fastest pair I've ever knitted. Last week the pattern dropped at 9 am CET on Monday morning. I finished knitting at 11 pm the following Monday: 7½ days on the needles. I've also got a congratulatory e-mail which means I'm through to the next round. It had a bonus pattern attached (there's four bonus patterns being released throughout the competition).

I knit two different sizes: the large one was knit over roughly 80 stitches and has a dark blue toe. You can see it's too large for the sock blocker it is on. The second sock was knit in medium, has the light blue toe and fits the blocker better. It's a "fraternal pair" as we call such things.
As these will be for HowlingMoon, she can easily fit and tell me which of the two sizes fits better. For myself, the medium would work best, I think.

"Sock Yoga"
You can see that the large does kind of fit well, but it's too long. I have size 42 feet, and I was aiming for size 39 socks!!
This was the first time knitting an Afterthought heel; you knit a bit of waste yarn into the "tube" of the sock, and pick up your heel from there. I found it very hard to determine the right size, even though the pattern said when to insert the yarn and how much extra length would come from the heel. Give me a regular heel flap any day!
This round will continue for a few more days, and there's no announcement when the next round starts. It starts when the pattern lands in your inbox. So I've got a few days off! Gives me some time to finish the Hitchhiker I'm reknitting and maybe cast on a pair of striped socks for myself (there's a pattern in the "Samenbreien" group that is free, and it's an MKAL, and I'm getting tired of knitting socks that are ugly or do not fit, so of course I was tempted.)
