Sunday morning and the light is good. I ask Eisirt to take progress pictures.
Last night I put the final short rows into the body of the sweater and now it's time to start on the rib hem. The timing is perfect on all sides (I must admit I sort of planned for it), the short rows are finished and I can take pictures in the daylight. My friend Anemoona will be coming over today and knitting a 1x1 rib is perfect mindless thing to do when we're chatting.

Eisirt makes the best pictures. He doesn't always frame the picture right, but that's something I can fix in post-processing. He does always manage to make me laugh, though!

Bodemloos09 - Picture time

My biggest pet peeve is that because it's a stockinette stitch, the hem rolls up all the time. You can't even clearly see the length difference between front and back in the above pictures! *sigh*
Also, it's not really clear where the crook of my leg is in these pictures either. Before I started on the short rows, the day before yesterday, I was sure I was now in the right spot. Now that I look at these pictures, I'm not so sure.

And all of this is pre-blocking, the sweater might still shrink. (If all else fails, I can still knit a few extra rounds at the hem, so I'm not worried. Also: still losing weight.)

I used a ton of markers to indicate where the wrapped stitches for the short rows lie. Just to be on the safe side. Right beneath the cable of the project-in-progress they really don't stand out especially if the fabric rolls up right next to the cable -- but they will show like a sore thumb if they're forgotten and they poke their nose up in a stockinette fabric. They're pretty hard to spot if you're working by lamp-light in the evening, too. Here's one to show you how subtle they can be (see if you can spot the next one to the left....yeah, you'll happily knit right past that):

Bodemloos10 - Wrapped stitches

Doortje insists on lying in my lap in the evenings but she always leaves quite quickly. I'm working on this big project and although my lap is ...pretty wide... she might feel a little neglected with my fingers always occupied and not scritching her itchies. It's not too strange though, there's a big lump of sweater wedged up against her. Nice and warm, but with the short rows I keep having to turn the whole thing around and she just wanted a nice little snooze!
If I lay the sweater flat on the bed, side seams on top of one another, you can clearly see the shape of the thing. And if you zoom in, you'll also spot the increases. And look, almost through the fourth skein!

Bodemloos11 - Curved hem

I've been working on this for two weeks now, and I'm amazed how fast it's going. Pretty soon, I'll pick up the stitches at the top and I'll have to decide whether to do the cowl or the sleeves first!
