Stress for the Dress
Dec. 26th, 2016 05:58 pmMy sadistic muse had booby-trapped the atelier for me today. As Eisirt was still recuperating from his Christmas-cheer night shifts, I went in to the atelier to grab the final things I need for my Emphebion costume.
Last Saturday I realised I probably wasn't going to finish the blue kirtle as it wasn't giving me ANY joy. It fit horribly, it took far too much time to get it in this state and it's practically unwearable. I tried on my red kirtle ("Apple") with the white linen shift I had made, and it was "good enough". Because sometimes Good Enough is all you get.
Well, no. My Muse was not going to settle for Good Enough.
After all, I could trace the pattern from my red kirtle and make an exact copy in blue fabric. I could even re-use the gores and possibly even the sleeves, so all I'd have to do was take the whole thing apart. And "mr. Seamripper is my friend", I have said so many times in the past.
Of course, Miss Muse only brought this idea to my attention after I'd spent more than an hour perfecting a tiny glove pattern. I quickly scraped the table clean, pre-shrunk the fabric, traced the pattern off the red kirtle, and ripped the gores out of the "Hobbezak" blue kirtle.
While doing so, I decided I wouldn't jinx the process by adding sleeves, and so I cut out an armscye facing and lacing facing in one.
I had originally planned to go back home and relax by four. By the time Muse was done with me, it was a quarter past five and I needed to bring hemming, hand-sewing the facing and cutting the lacing holes home with me as chores.
The way it looks now I'll be taking public transportation to the event, so I've got an hour and a half to amuse myself on various buses. But still. I could have done without the mad frantic scramble to make a dress the day before the event begins. Sheesh!
