With everything that's been going on I haven't taken the time to write about my Rockefeller here. It's a shame because I'm close to finishing it! At least on Ravelry I've posted updates and gotten feedback and comments about my progress. Guess I should share with the rest of the group...

At the start of September, after dinner with Eisirt's parents we'd sleep in a hotel and travel down to Soesterberg for a museum visit the next day. I had brought my Rockefeller to knit, he had brought his laptop. We're a bit of a weird couple.
As I plunked the Rockefeller down on the bed, I realised I wasn't quite happy with how it was turning out:

Rockefeller doubts
As you can see, I had also brought some light reading to keep us entertained. This book "Harriet, the invincible" by Ursula Vernon, features a glitter cover, an evil rat witch, a brave hamster princess, a horrible curse, and quail.

My original plan for the striped wings was to knit light blue - white - dark blue - white. Since I'm using three colours in stead of two, I needed to figure out how to work the repeats. But I didn't like the result: there seemed to be too much white going on. Although it matched the piano fingers quite nicely, it didn't work with the rest of the shawl.
Thus my evening in the hotel was spent frogging the entire first wing, untangling all the yarns that crossed over one another to secure them in the fabric, and rolling up my balls of yarn again.

Once home, I manipulated the photo to see how it would look if I were to alternate light blue - dark blue - light blue - white. This looked a lot more calm, and I decided to press on with that idea.

On September 26th, the first wing was done (or at least: photographed). The new colour scheme was much more pleasing to the eye and still incorporated my suggested changes to the pattern. There's a white i-cord on either side, bordering the entire shawl. The amount of light blue around dark blue echoes the dark blue in the main body of the shawl (or at least, its spacing) somewhat. But it did seem to take forever to finish!

The wing is some 65 centimeters long, each repeat of the stripe is just over 3 cm high, and the last picture shows the i-cord side that is the "unattractive" side. But because you only have your main colour and the white for the i-cord there, I can live with it! It's not as pretty as the other side, but it's definitely not as bad as the back of the other side.

I was very scared for the second wing: would my i-cord be as pretty, or would the whole thing be mirrored, and the ugly i-cord be on the front of the shawl? Would I have enough light blue to finish my scarf? And will I ever finish the second wing, since it also takes forever to finish, and forever x2 is a really long time....
Stay tuned to find out.
