On Saturday we were invited to join a new friend at the beach near his home. As he'd driven up to Eindhoven in the previous week to give me some advice on setting up my administration, I felt I couldn't decline, even with Eisirt struggling with a cold and choosing (wisely) to stay at home.
Instead, I hooked up with Kat and we carpooled from Breda onwards, saving petrol and doubling the fun on the road! We visited the little yarn store in Arnemuiden, as we've been following the propietor's blog for years, and I bought a brick of Unikat yarn in the colour "Eucalyptus". It's a smaller brick of just 750 meters, but still more than ample to make myself something pretty someday. (As I now have enough yarn to fill two boxes, I'm putting myself on cold sheep (cold turkey). This money was a gift from my parents in law after graduating, so now I don't have any more money to spend on yarn.)

We spent the day at the beach with said friend, played Cards against Humanity, and ate fries and fish before driving back to Breda. I got a nasty sunburn for half-heartedly slapping some SPF30 around because it was very cloudy, almost completely overcast. The wind was cold and I was shivering at some point, but it was great to be at the beach again!
I still feel a bit cheated that I got sunburned even if there was no sun, but I should have learned from my sunburn at Wol in de Wei. Also: UV filters through clouds. Should have known better, bad Jane!

Today we had a surprise for [livejournal.com profile] dolphirl, who is expecting and very close to her pregnancy leave. Her friends organised a baby shower, and we all poured into her backyard shade, bearing gifts and bits to eat. I had wanted to make hearty cheese cookies, but finding little bugs in my flour freaked me out and I had no time to buy new flour, so I just brought along a water melon.
We set up the table with food, hugged dolphirl, and asked her to match baby pictures to recent pictures. It was really hard, but luckily she could start off with some of the women whose baby pictures look remarkably like their own babies. We slowly ate our way through most of the food and then decorared baby rompers. I drew a fire truck in paint, which was hard enough, some of the others went wild with dragons and pirates, so great!

By the time it was five o'clock the mom-stories flowed freely, all the mothers telling each other about the things their kids did that freaked them out or were really scary (little kids walking around carrying and dragging their little brothers, and moms just praying they wouldn't fall over and break eachother...). Shortly after, we disbanded and I drove home.

Although it's been a really great weekend, filled with fun and food and friends and all that goodness, I am now aching for some alone-time on the couch. I haven't introverted and I need some, before the new week starts and I'm expected at work again.
