Blazer progress
Jun. 1st, 2016 09:46 pmDuring the lesson where our teacher discussed the steps of sewing the blazer, I joked that it sounded like "not a lot of work at all." My classmates ogled me suspiciously, knowing I am the fastest sewing person in the class, but not quite sure if I was serious.
Maybe I should have reminded them that for the technical (sewing) exam, we're supposed to draft the pattern and sew the blazer in two days.
After the26 29 pieces for the jeans (at last count I hadn't made the waistband yet, which is made up of three pieces), the blazer is not a lot of work.
This morning, I had this:

This evening, I had this:

What I did today:
Fire up a stand-up comedy from Gabriel Iglesias to entertain me as I was cutting.
Cut all the pattern pieces of the fashion fabric.
Put the fabric pieces (still pinned) onto interfacing and cut all of them again. Two pieces at a time, then walking to the ironing board and glueing the interfacing to the fabric so the pieces could cool and fuse well while I was cutting the next piece. I'm using a thin, leightweight interfacing that gives wool a marvelous drape, but it means interfacing everything from top to hem.
Cut my lining pieces.
Have lunch with an episode of Jingles.
Pin my lining together.
Sew a label into the back neck facing.
Wage war on my pockets. There are two welt pockets with flap, and I'd completely forgotten to make a welt pattern piece. Since the pocket is not on the straight of the grain, it needed some attention. I also needed a larger strip for the chest pocket since it was too small. Once the three pockets were done, it was time for dinner (tomato soup and bread)
Use a scrap of lining to padstitch my collar, while watching an episode after dinner. (Because Tailoring Is A Thing!)
Sew and press all seams.
I was done around 21:20, sent the picture to my mom and various friends, and now it's time to collapse.
Next up:
Sew the lining and sleeves. Set the sleeves and do a fitting. I'm seeing some weird bulge around the chest area that could just be happening because the sleeves aren't set yet. Or my bust point is in the wrong place. The hip also still has a really weird curve, which I just can't seem to get right.
Then it's onto the collar, lining, buttons and hem and it should be done.
It's reassuring to know I can go faster, if only I make sure the pocket pattern pieces are alright.
