2016, Leap Year, Year of the WIP
Jan. 5th, 2016 12:32 pmIt seems like the leap years are "years of the WIP". In 2012 I last had a year of the WIP. I finished several works in progress I had lying around, threw some old WIPs away, and of course started a few new ones.
Last time I blogged I was so proud I'd traded part of my yarn stash and knitted a cowl I'd been meaning to make. It cleared a bit of my stash away (not that I have a lot) and it felt good. I've also worked on my basic patchwork quilt from 2013, and last night I finished the final hand-sewn block. I now get to continue by machine.
There's no obvious reason for this, except that this was an agreement I came to with myself and (possibly) my muse. I was afraid if I machine-sewed some of the blocks, there'd be a visible difference. Now that all hand-sewn blocks are hand-sewn, I can do the sashing by machine. No more folding seam allowances to and fro! Just pedal-to-the-metal right on over them all.
To my mind, I've already cleared away quite some WIPs. I've re-assembled my blue skirt I made for school last year. The quilt is progressing nicely and I'm also thinking about picking up the brown hexagon quilt again. Lots of time on my hands in the evenings, as Eisirt is working evenings for now, but that might change.
The new year is to blame for most of it, it feels like I should make a new start. I've no idea what kind of knitting WIPs I want to do except finish the Harvest Cardigan before the start of spring. I'm hesitant to cast on something new, and I'm also wondering how much knitting I will still do if I do pick up the brown hexagon quilt again.
Eisirt has a rare day off today, so I don't want to fill it with homework, even though I had promised myself to start on homework today. We'll make ham in the oven tonight and we've already picked up some groceries. I might as well work on the quilt today.
