Vrije dag, opruimdag, kerstdag
Dec. 23rd, 2015 01:05 pmYesterday I took the day off. Did nothing but play silly games on my PC and knitting. I knit a most aggravating heel. Because I want the heel to be in a contrast colour, I needed to figure out what to do with the gusset stitches and heel flap. (This is all pretty technical sock anatomy stuff, I know.) So after I knit just the heel in dark blue, I frogged everything and knit the heel again so the heel flap was also in dark blue. It requires proper planning and starting with the contrast colour at an earlier point in the round, so you can't fix it when you've already done the heel.
An Eye of Partridge heel flap is very confusing. One round is "knit one, slip one" and then two rounds on it suddenly is "slip one, knit one". It makes for a really pretty reinforced heel flap, but it's hard to remember whether you've knit or slipped.
So I knitted three heels, one of which was frogged, and the other will be frogged since it was the Aragorn sock heel (as I was on the subject of turning heels), but I made a mistake on one side and the stitches look all wonky.
Today I've got a clearing day. I've tidied the downstairs storage room, so classmate Felice can more easily park her bike there. I've re-arranged some things. The dis-assembled chair of Beriadanwen went in the back where it's out of the way, the iron rails of Eisirt's cupboards went into a box already containing some of his books. I've taken some old bags and odds upstairs, and placed the larp swords safely in front of rolls of fabric I recently unpacked. Don't want a 20 euro roll of fabric squashing a 160 euro larp spear, after all.
Laundry's folded, old cards were put in the paper bin so the Christmas cards could take their place, and the bed has been made with fresh sheets.
I plan to spend the afternoon on some repair and sewing, and I still need to figure out what I'm having for dinner while Eisirt is working.
Tomorrow we've got Christmas in Rotterdam. I should call Bernadette and inquire when we are expected for dinner, as my brothers are probably working all day and traffic on Christmas eve will be uncooperative, no doubt.
