Fitted winter coat

A final picture of my beautiful winter coat, taken in the lovely city of Alkmaar. This was taken at the waterside near the Waag, where the cheese was (and is) weighed and sold. The historic centre of Alkmaar is really lovely, with very tiny streets. I'd love to go back there as a tourist and explore.



As Alice-Lenny always does, I've kept track of the costs of this winter coat....brace for impact!

Fabric (black wool), 4 meters:	€ 40,-
Fabric (pink wool crêpe), 1,80 meters:	€ 19,45
Lining, bremsilk, 3,5 meters:	€ 41,83
Woolen interfacing ("mantellinnen"), 2,1 meters:	€ 21,-
Glue-in interfacing, 2,5 meters	€ 18,-
Shoulder pads and sleeve head 'moustache'	€ 6,-
4 buttons and 4 counter-buttons	€ 2,-
Thread and serger thread	€ 7,50

Total:	155,78

I also kept track of the hours until I started on the lining. Lining the thing isn't the hard work, hand-sewing all the seams down was. Keeping that in mind, this baby cost me 27½ hours to make (excluding lining).

Still: worth it! Bring on the snow!

En dat is een uurloon van € 2,66 - een koopje eigenlijk - een kleermaker doet het er niet voor

Nee, dat lees je verkeerd. Qua materialen zit er 155 euro in en daarnaast nog 27,5 uur + de voering. Daar wil je geen prijskaartje voor berekenen. Dit is een onbetaalbaar project, een jas voor het leven.

zeker daar heb je helemaal gelijk in.
Ik probeerde alleen een vergelijking te maken, voor als je zo'n jas zou moeten kopen.
Zelf gemaakt geeft zoveel voldoening.

Als ik uitga van een uurloon van € 25, p/u en een winstmarge van 10 %, kost de jas (zonder voering) € 976,25.

Still, totally worth it!
