At the Brei-and-Haakdagen in October I bought a hank of scrumptious lace as a gift for Sigunne, and I've been knitting feverishly at it for some time now. As glorious as the pattern I got with it is, the first part is just very, very boring.

Things I learnt so far:
  • Yes, you can do a double yarn over and knit both threads a different way. Nobody said it was going to be easy, and it makes for an impressively big hole.
  • Always count your stitches using stitch markers. You'll worry that you've made a mistake if you don't, because your count will always be off. (In short: my knitting skills are better than my counting skills.)
  • Even when using a 3.5 mm needle, knitting it will be slow since the thread is so tiny.
  • Tiny scrumptious thread is still very scrumptious. Also: tiny. But scrumptious!
  • Stockinette stitch in anything under needle size 5 is boring. On bigger needles it is also boring but at least it will be over much sooner than on smaller needles.
  • As easy as this pattern is (and I know it is, because I can read the stitches and look at the chart), I will still use lifelines. ALWAYS use life-lines in lace. Say it with me now.
  • Blocking this will bring out the awesome. I hope it will also increase the size, because right now this is just 35 cms. It looks like it should be bigger.

So far, so good. I'm just glad this isn't one of those lace projects that says "now take the next stitch and make 12 new stitches out of it."
I'm still on the fence on whether lace is something I "do".
