Exam 2

Well, Monday was the day of exam 2. I had been battling some fatigue and mild discomfort on Sunday -- which I blame for my cutting mistakes. I could cut the fabric at home but wasn't paying enough attention.
We dragged sewing machines and overlockers to school. I had brought just about everything but my bias tape collection: from a pressing ham and a seam pressing tool to my steam iron. Setting up was easy enough and I had more space than at home. The chair was horrible though, after two hours of sewing and serging my shoulders were already acting up. The table was far too low, so I was hunched over the whole time. At home I have my big computer chair for sewing and I set it to its lowest possible setting, so my eyes are closer to the sewing surface. Only this will save my shoulders.

In any case, sewing went really well. We were sewing from 9 am to noon, and by that time I had finished the collar, side seams with decorative stitching, and set in my sleeves. All I had left to do were the hems, buttons and the buttonholes. I tried on my blouse and we decided to shorten the sleeves some more -- my basic pattern isn't completely correct. Either my sleeves are just too long or just the elbow-line is off. But 6 centimeters shorter my sleeve would be just right.

After lunch and hot cocoa (we're not having the best of summers) we returned to school at 13:30 and I finished my work at 14:45. I handed in the blouse and did some hand-sewing on my basic patchwork blocks. (This probably did not help with my sore shoulders either.) I am not happy with my blouse though -- because of not paying attention on Sunday night while cutting the fabric I have a center-front panel that does not match up on the diagonal stripes of the fabric. Still, I could have fiddled with it for another hour, but I was just done with it.
I was also not feeling great that afternoon. Some moments I was very nauseated, other moments I felt fine. In any case, because of the two ladies I carpool with I had to sit this one out until the end. Sigunne had 30 minutes of extra time, and we were packing up by 17:00.

Yesterday I was too sick to get up much, and I was mostly glued to the sofa with a warm blanket and half a season of ER (my current girl-soap series). Luckily I am feeling much better today. I'm quite done with falling ill around the exams.
Next Monday we have a final lesson which will probably be filled with tea and cookies, and I am sorry to leave school for the summer holiday. I was just starting to have such fun with making all these pretty things for myself!
