Coat choices
Apr. 14th, 2015 05:19 pmA few years back I snapped up some taupe/gray curtain linen for an unknown project, but never got around to using it. Now I'm thinking of using it for my summer coat, which I need to hand in somewhere before the exams. The tricky bit is that we're making a wide coat with no waist shaping or darts, and we do have to make a difficult collar and pockets.
The fabric is quite busy and the flowers are quite big, so my teacher advised me to make something simple, so the fabric would be the "wow-factor". Overdo it on details and the fabric will go to waste.
I'm torn between a double-breasted model with a double line of white buttons in a V-shape, or going for a simple white zipper in the middle and edging my pocket flaps with white satin bias tape, to emphasize the white flowers in stead of the not-quite-my-colour green leaves or the also-not-quite-my-colour background...
Argh, it's so hard! Why do I always have this trouble choosing my designs when I'm constricted to certain models by school. Why can't we just make an awesome slimming coat with a tiny waist? It would look so much better on me. Now I have to choose between a trench, swagger or egg-shaped model, none of which suit me.
I think I'll just go with the zip, because it's easiest, and call it a day.
