School is going well, although it is really demanding. Not only do the teachers measure impeccably small, but the work load is also pretty high. Such high standards can be the cause of some stress (how the hell do I mark 0,1 cm on one quarter scale?!), but it also forces us as students to work harder and draw more precisely and get better at everything.
Still, I am enjoying myself a lot, my brain is still soaking in new knowledge and I feel more in the know with every lesson. It's not just the skill to draw patterns, but also: if I make an adjustment, I can see what will happen to the way the collar will lie. Connecting the dots, if you will.

I'm still way behind on my assignments. I've only handed in the first assignment: a six-panel skirt, which came back as a 7,5. Other sewing technique assignments are somewhat better, my grades vary between 6½ for bound buttonholes to an 8- for a shawl collar. I'm still trying to get around to my straight skirt, but the main problem I have is not just the fact that I need some basic pattern adjustments for my rounded backside (official term!), but also that I keep having to clear away most of the things on my sewing desk before I can start on the next task. I have to do all the paper homework first, then clear it all away. Then I draft patterns on full scale on my coffee table, so I have to clear away the laptop, any candles and magazines that accumulate there. Then before I can cut my fabric, I need to sweep the floor to get all the dust out of the way. And by that time, the mess on my sewing desk is back and I have to clear that away (and the junk on the ironing board too!) before I can properly sew anything. I need to set up my lockmachine, which has to be stowed away before doing any kind of paper homework and....
*pant pant* You can see my problem.

Still, I made a fitting model of my dress from the sizes Teacher José took a few weeks back and it fit me pretty much perfectly, so I can go right ahead with my free assignment (due before the end of March officially): a blouse or a dress or whichever. I had settled on a blouse, but I might go with some 1950s or 1960s dress with some kind of collar and a short sleeve (Maybe this?) since the fabric I have is of course horribly unfit for anything blouse-like.

I've still got a few weeks but all assignments are due before the exams in May, so I should get cracking soon. But now I have sizes that will fit me, and that means I can draft patterns that will fit me, and that means I can finally sew my fingers to the bone.
