Now that this project is finished and delivered, I can finally blog about it. This yarn, about as acrylic as they come, was bought at Zeeman. the colour was definitely something my mother could appreciate.

I had started out this project as a scarf, then changed my mind to knitting a blanket, and then finally settled on the Crescendo shawl pattern. By cabling every fourth row, a basket-weave pattern appears. You might call it 'entrelac for cable knitters'. (I still want to try my hand at entrelac some day. Honest.)

Roze sjaal-2Roze sjaal-1

I was so happy to finish off the last row, after having this project on the needles and sometimes hibernating for months. Total time to finish from the first time casting on: roughly 2 years. In the end, it was an effort to push on and just finish it already. Because of the cables, the progress is quite slow. But it makes for a lovely voluminous effect (if you'd use softer yarn, it'd be called "fluffy")
But in the end, it was all worth it. My mother was ecstatic to see the finished product!

Oe daardoor komen jeugdherinneringen boven.

Also, you clear up a little bit of brain space that was holding the "I should finish that some time", not to be sniffed at either! I hope you do something nice with it :)

I have a whole page of "Things to Finish" and another whole page of "Things to Fix". The to finish list has mostly sewing/knitting/assorted crafts projects on it that are sometimes not yet started. The to Fix list is mostly things to do around the house, like using wood glue to finally get those plints to stay put in the kitchen.
But I find that writing those things down in a list clears them from my head. And that is a very good start.

But granted, I did push on with this shawl because the Zeeuwse lappendeken was coming up and I didn't want two large projects on the needles!

Love the color yarn and your idea to make it a blanket.

I have a question for you please. I made this pattern as written. I did a cable cast on.

How would you finish the pattern so that the end of the shawl matches the beginning edge? I am not adding fringe.

My guess is to finish the pattern on row 8. Knit 1, Purl 1 then bind off using the cable cast off?

Thanks for your help.

Honestly, it's been so long I can't remember. I think I just finished it on the last row before one of the cable rows and bound off loosely.
Try looking up the pattern on Ravelry, and looking at other people's projects to see if they have useful notes. You need a (free) login to look at patterns and projects, but signing up is easy and well worth your time: www.ravelry.com
