Mar. 17th, 2014 08:12 pmWhew, what a weekend it's been!
Sunday morning dawned bright and early and soon enough I was packing up the final things for the move. Nachtvisser was the first to arrive, and we had a cup of coffee together with Eisirt, who had stayed the night.
Mom and Luc were quick to follow, toting a cart behind their big Skoda. We dragged all the panels of cupboards and wardrobe downstairs, waking up half the hallway in the process.
In the end, we managed to get everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) into the cart, CanCan (Nachtvisser's Renault Kangoo) and Aurum (my Renault Kliko).
We left Boxtel right on time as planned and made our way to Eindhoven. There we had a cup of coffee while the other troopers arrived. Tegingûr and Yava'in and my brother and Eef had all taken the time to drive to Eindhoven and help out. We unloaded the cart and dragged all the long wardrobe bits up the fire escape. Even the two red couches went up by that way, even though they had to be turned outside the fire escape platform halfway up. Strong men!
The carts and car were quickly unloaded and it was time for lunch. The team of nine strong men and women only just fit in the chairs and couches assembled, but everyone was laughing and eating happily.
Then Tegingûr and Eisirt went back to Ikea with a part of my bed, while Yava'in and I fixed pieces of the Pax wardrobe together. Nachtvisser fixed up some final things I wasn't sure of how to do and mom cleaned my kitchen and bathroom. Luc put up some shelves and Eef put hooks in my curtains.
It was a big team, but we got everything done in the end. One by one they all left, and I warmed up some hutspot with bacon. I spent the evening doing more assembly and some clearing away. By the time it was nine pm I was dead tired, and a warm shower and an episode of Bones saw me to bed.
This morning my alarm was set early, though, as a repairman would drop by to fix the large livingroom heater. After he left, I quickly drove to Veldhoven to bring Aurum for his yearly check-up APK. He'd been acting up a bit, so I suspected there would be costs. I must admit I was nervous he'd not come out of the APK...
After returning home I had about thirty minutes and the guy from XS4all was here to install my internet. I was rummaging about a bit, unloading boxes and after he left I drilled holes into my newly tiled walls to hang a towel rack (lucky for me, I'd already drilled through tiles before and knew how to handle the drill).
At a quarter past one, dad dropped by to check out "my new palace" quickly followed by Tegingûr and Yava'in, bringing Eisirt by for another round of dragging, packing and things. I served lunch for everyone, happy with the help. My father was very impressed with the bathroom and stated, upon leaving, that it was really beautiful and that I'd made it my palace indeed.
The four of us (Yava'in, Eisirt, Tegingû and myself) dragged the remainder of boxes up the stairs. As there not been any space for them the previous day, we had decided to move them up on Monday. Except for a few boxes of crafting supplies, everything is now where it belongs.
After the gang left for Boxtel and then Hilversum, I received a phone call about my car and the expected costs, and after five I could pick Aurum up at the garage. The hiccupping he had suffered from was caused by a faulty coil in the engine, disabling one of the spark plugs. He had been limping along on three, in stead of the usual four, causing hiccupping and puttering.
When I returned home with Aurum I could tell the difference. I doubt it was the two new rear tires made him purr like a kitten.
Sadly, the garage didn't wash and polish or clean the inside, so that is left for me to do at some point. I also need to bring him in one day to replace the timing belt. Other than that, he should be good for another year.
And now I find myself with laptop online, feet on the table, heater on medium and candles making a great atmosphere in my very own apartment. Ready for a bit of calm and quiet.
